The Railway Museum in Mysore, also known as the Mysore Railway Museum, is a fascinating destination for both train enthusiasts and history buffs. Established in 1979 by Indian Railways, it is the second such museum after the National Railway Museum in Delhi. The museum is situated near the Mysore Railway Station on KRS Road in the heart of Mysore city. It houses a rich collection of photographs and objects related to the development of the railways in India. Visitors can explore a variety of exhibits, including vintage locomotives, carriages, a steam water pumping station, and a royal saloon carriage that once belonged to the Maharaja of Mysore. The museum also features an outdoor display of locomotives and rolling stock, showcasing the evolution of rail transport in India. A mini train ride within the museum premises is a major attraction, especially for children. This educational and entertaining museum provides a deep insight into the technological and historical aspects of the Indian Railways and is a must-visit for those interested in the bygone era of steam locomotives.
