The Chennakeshava Temple, commonly known as the Somanathapura Temple, located in Mysuru (formerly known as Mysore), Karnataka, India, is a brazen exhibit of Hoysala architecture. Built in the 13th century by Soma, a Dandanayaka (commander) under the aegis of the Hoysala King Narasimha III, this temple is dedicated to Lord Chennakeshava, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Its ornately carved sculptures, soapstone architecture, and symmetrical design exemplify the sheer mastery and creativity of the era's craftsmen. The temple stands as a testament to the religious fervor and skill that flourished during the Hoysala reign, showcasing detailed friezes and panels depicting stories from Hindu epics. Despite the wear of time, the well-preserved edifice allows visitors an elusive glimpse into India's historical and spiritual past. The temple complex is protected as a monument of national importance by the Archaeological Survey of India.
