Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, located near the historic city of Mysore in the Indian state of Karnataka, is a significant destination for ornithologists and nature enthusiasts. Spread across 40 acres on the banks of the Kaveri River, it consists of six islets that were declared a bird sanctuary in 1940 at the behest of the noted ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali. This sanctuary serves as a breeding ground for countless migratory birds from across the globe, making it a vibrant spectacle of feathered beauties. Visitors can take boat rides to observe the birds closely, which include species like Painted Storks, Asian Openbills, Cormorants, Herons, and Spoonbills, among others. The boat rides also offer a chance to witness the massive Marsh Crocodiles basking on the rocks. The lush greenery and serene ambiance make it a perfect spot for photographers and bird-watchers. The best time to visit is during the breeding season when the population and activity of birds are at their peak.
