Located in the heart of Kathmandu, Kumari Chowk is part of the historic Hanuman Dhoka Palace Complex. This area, rich in Nepali culture, is named after the living goddess Kumari who resides there. The cuisine in Kathmandu and around Kumari Chowk is a melting pot of flavors influenced by trade routes, cultural exchange, and local traditions. It's imbued with Tibetan, Indian, and indigenous Newari flavors that have been blended into a unique gastronomy representing the diverse ethnicities of Nepal. The food culture is predominantly vegetarian, due in large part to Hindu and Buddhist dietary practices which discourage the consumption of certain meats, with a particular reverence towards cows.
