Best Time to Visit Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan

Spring to Early Summer (May to June) is often considered the ideal period to visit Nur-Sultan, previously known as Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan. During these months, the weather is reasonably mild and the city is in full bloom, making it perfect for sightseeing and outdoor activities. The average temperature ranges from 10°C to 23°C (50°F to 73°F), which is comfortable for exploring attractions such as the Bayterek Tower, the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation, and the modernistic architecture that the city is famous for. Moreover, this is the time when the city celebrates several festivals, including Astana Day, which falls on July 6th. However, spring can also bring unpredictable weather, including wind and occasional rain, so it's advisable to pack layers and be prepared for changing conditions.

Late Summer to Early Autumn (August to September) is another pleasant period for visiting Nur-Sultan. As the harsh summer heat subsides, you'll find that temperatures become more comfortable, hovering between 15°C to 20°C (59°F to 68°F), which is ideal for outdoor excursions to places like the Presidential Park or enjoying a boat ride along the Ishim river that flows through the city. Additionally, the city is less crowded with tourists during this time, offering a more relaxed experience. Visitors should keep in mind that the weather can change rapidly in Nur-Sultan, and temperatures begin to drop significantly as autumn progresses, so packing some warm clothing is advisable in case of sudden cold spells.
