Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, also known as Darjeeling Zoo, is located in the town of Darjeeling in the Indian state of West Bengal. Set at an elevation of approximately 7,000 feet above sea level, this zoological park is renowned for its conservation programs and specializes in breeding endemic Himalayan species such as the snow leopard, red panda, and Himalayan wolf. The park spans about 68 acres and is nestled on the slopes of Mount Kilash, boasting not only a diverse collection of fauna but also breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Named after Padmaja Naidu, the former Governor of West Bengal and the daughter of Sarojini Naidu, a noted freedom fighter and poetess, the zoo is deeply committed to wildlife conservation and participates in captive breeding of threatened species. Despite the challenging high-altitude conditions, the park has achieved significant success in its conservation breeding programs.
