The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) is a premier mountaineering institute located in Darjeeling, West Bengal, India. Established in 1954 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of Independent India, the institute promotes mountaineering and adventure sports. Positioned at the jaw-dropping backdrop of the majestic Kanchenjunga range, HMI is a blend of adventure and education. It offers various mountaineering courses for enthusiasts and professionals alike, and it also has a museum that showcases a collection of mountaineering equipment, photographs, and the personal effects of Tenzing Norgay, one of the first two individuals known to reach the summit of Mount Everest. The campus is also notable for its memorial to the great mountaineer.
