The Darjeeling Ropeway, formally known as the Rangeet Valley Passenger Cable Car, is an aerial tramway in the city of Darjeeling in West Bengal, India. Established in 1968, it was the first cable car system in India and has since been a popular attraction for tourists wanting to witness the breathtaking views of the verdant tea gardens, deep valleys, and majestic mountains, including the Kanchenjunga range. The journey spans approximately 2.5 km and descends from the North Point in Singamari to the Singla Bazaar on the banks of the Ramman River. It not only offers spectacular scenic views but also serves as a window into the local lifestyle, as it passes over small villages and hilly terrains. The ride gives tourists a unique opportunity to observe the workings of the famous Darjeeling tea estates from a bird's eye view. Renovated and reopened in 2012 after an incident, the ropeway now includes modern cabins with enhanced safety features, ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for visitors.
