- Domestic Flight: You can book a domestic flight from Colombo to the nearest airstrip, which is Sigiriya Air Force Base. However, these flights are not regular and depend largely on demand.
- Helicopter: For a quicker and more scenic journey, charter helicopter services are available from the airport directly to Sigiriya. This option is more expensive but offers stunning aerial views of the Sri Lankan landscape.
By Road
Traveling by road can be an adventure in itself, and gives you the chance to see Sri Lanka's beautiful countryside.
- Rental Car: Rent a car from Colombo and drive to Sigiriya. The distance is approximately 169 kilometers and can take around 4 hours, depending on traffic.
- Private Taxi: Hiring a private taxi might be more comfortable and hassle-free. Be sure to negotiate the price before you leave.
- Bus: Public buses run from Colombo to Dambulla frequently, and from Dambulla, you can take a local bus or tuk-tuk to Sigiriya. This option is the most economical but also the most time-consuming.
By Train
There is no direct train to Sigiriya, but you can take a train to Habarana or to Dambulla from Colombo. The train journey allows you to enjoy the landscape at a leisurely pace. From Habarana or Dambulla, you can take a bus or taxi to reach Sigiriya.
