Agasthyakoodam, part of the Sahyadri range of mountains, is situated in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, India. With a peak rising to approximately 1,868 meters above sea level, it stands as the second highest peak in Kerala after Anamudi. Agasthyakoodam is named after the Hindu sage Agasthya, who is considered one of the seven rishis (Saptarishi) of Hindu Puranas. The region is renowned for its rich biodiversity; it is home to rare herbs and medicinal plants. Under the administration of the Kerala Forest Department, it falls within the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary and is a part of the Agasthya Biosphere Reserve. Trekking to Agasthyakoodam is a favorite activity among adventure enthusiasts. However, entry is restricted, and visitors need to obtain passes from the Forest Department for the trek, which usually opens for a limited period each year. The peak is considered sacred by the local communities, and the traditions and customs of the indigenous people are deeply intertwined with the region.
