Agasthyakoodam, located near Trivandrum in Kerala, is one of the most revered peaks in the Western Ghats, standing tall at about 1868 meters above sea level. Known for its rich biodiversity and as a pilgrimage site for devotees of the Hindu sage Agasthya, the best time to visit Agasthyakoodam is during the dry season, which typically starts from December and lasts until April. During this period, the weather is more stable with minimal rainfall, and the temperature is cool and pleasant, making trekking to the peak more comfortable. The clear skies usually provide better visibility, allowing trekkers to enjoy unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape.
However, the peak is only accessible for a limited period each year. The trekking season officially commences in January after the winter solstice and continues until late February or early March, depending on the decisions made by the Kerala Forest Department. Visitors should note that obtaining a pass to trek Agasthyakoodam requires prior booking and is usually subject to a quota to protect the delicate ecosystem of the region. Additionally, since Agasthyakoodam falls in the range of the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary, the sanctuary's conservation policies also influence the visiting times and procedures.
