Ancestral Goa, also known as the Big Foot Museum, is an open-air museum located in the small village of Loutolim in South Goa, India. It vividly portrays Goan rural life as it was a hundred years ago. The museum encompasses a recreated Goan village with its various traditional structures like a fisherman's hut, a Goan artisan’s workshop, a farmer’s house, and more. Central to the museum is the laterite sculpture of Sant Mirabai, the longest laterite sculpture in India, carved by artist and museum creator Maendra Jocelino Araujo Alvares. Visitors can also view a traditional Goan feni distillery, a spice farm, and a handicraft center where local artists display their works. The artifact collection within the Goan houses provides a deeper insight into the bygone way of life, including ancient farming tools and kitchen utensils. Moreover, the legend of the 'Big Foot' or the 'Giant Foot' lends the museum its name where a footprint is embedded into a rock, and it's believed to bring luck to those who stand on it with respect.
