Rivona Caves, situated in the picturesque South Goa in India, are ancient Buddhist caves that date back to the 6th century. These caves are hewn out of laterite rocks and provide insights into the history and religious significance of the place. The caves feature a 'Pitha,' which is believed to have been used by Buddhist monks for meditation. Despite being lesser known compared to other tourist attractions in Goa, Rivona Caves offer a tranquil break from the bustling beaches and a peek into the ascetic lifestyle of ancient monks. The accessibility to the caves might require a bit of trekking, and the terrain may be rough, but the journey is worthwhile for history enthusiasts and those looking to go off the beaten path. The Rivona Caves are surrounded by lush greenery and the beauty of Goan countryside, which enhances the historical experience with scenic views.

Small cave tucked in the dense vegetation off the main road...
The cave is accessible by a less travelled pedestrian path which gets hidden due to vegetation in monsoons. There are no signages to guide to visitor and only one solitary board put up at the entrance..
