Shri Shantadurga Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Shantadurga, located at the foothills of the Kavalem village in Ponda Taluka, South Goa district, India. The temple exhibits an intriguing blend of Indo-Portuguese architectural style, characterized by its pyramid-shaped 'shikaras' (spires) rising above the sanctum, and its Roman-arched windows. The deity, Shantadurga, is worshipped as the goddess of peace. According to mythology, Shantadurga mediated a fierce battle between Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, resolving the conflict amicably. The temple has a tank, 'Deepastambha' (light tower), and impressive wooden pillars with intricate carvings inside the 'Sabha Mandap' (assembly hall). The serene atmosphere of the temple, coupled with its historical significance and architectural beauty, makes it a popular pilgrimage site attracting devotees and tourists alike.
