Benog Wildlife Sanctuary is a part of the larger Rajaji National Park in Uttarakhand, India, known for its rich flora and fauna. Located approximately 11 kilometers from the popular hill station of Mussoorie, it encompasses an area of about 339 hectares. The sanctuary is nestled amidst pine-clad slopes and offers breathtaking views of the snow-capped Himalayas and the Doon Valley. It provides a natural habitat for the rare mountain quail, which was thought to be extinct, and is also home to other species such as the red-billed blue magpie, leopard, deer, and bear. The sanctuary's diverse ecosystem is made up of coniferous forests, grasslands, and blooming rhododendrons that create a vibrant landscape, especially during flowering season. Nature enthusiasts, bird watchers, and trekkers find this sanctuary an idyllic retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. Brilliant location for birding.
Brilliant location for birding, and day hikes. We went with a group of six and had a wonderful time on the gentle slopes, the abandoned brewery and local temples near by.
