The Gateway of India is an iconic monument located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Overlooking the Arabian Sea, it was erected to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Bombay in 1911. Designed by architect George Wittet, it combines elements of Hindu and Islamic architectural styles, and is built from yellow basalt and reinforced concrete. The Gateway served as a symbolic ceremonial entrance to India for important colonial personnel. It is also famously known as the place where the British troops departed India after independence. Today, it stands as an emblem of Mumbai and is a popular tourist attraction. Visitors can enjoy the bustling scene, partake in boat rides, and indulge in the local street food available nearby.

A must see when in Mumbai
We visited on a tour and had 30 minutes here which is probably enough unless you wish to take a boat tour also. It is a must see when visiting Mumbai with it's history.
