The Bhau Daji Lad Mumbai City Museum, formerly known as the Victoria and Albert Museum, is one of Mumbai's oldest museums and showcases the cityâ€™s cultural heritage and history. Established in 1855 and situated in Byculla East, next to the Mumbai Zoo, it was rechristened in honor of Dr. Bhau Daji Lad, a prominent physician, scholar, and a key figure in the establishment and building of the museum. The museum's collection includes fine and decorative arts that highlight the craftsmanship of various communities in Maharashtra and also documents the life of the people of Mumbai during the 18th and 19th centuries. The building itself is a historical landmark, an exemplar of the High Victorian Gothic style, and has been painstakingly restored, winning UNESCOâ€™s award for cultural heritage conservation.
