Laxmi Vilas Palace, located in Vadodara, Gujarat, India, is a magnificent example of the Indo-Saracenic architectural style. It was built by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in 1890 as the royal residence of the affluent Maratha family, the Gaekwads of Baroda. Spread over an expanse of 700 acres, it purportedly was the largest private dwelling built till date and is four times the size of the Buckingham Palace. The palace complex includes the Moti Baug Palace and the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum, which houses a rich collection of art and other historically significant items. The Laxmi Vilas Palace is still home to the royal family, although portions of it are now open to the public as a museum showcasing an exquisite collection of old armoury, sculptures, and paintings by Raja Ravi Varma. The palace's lush gardens and golf course contribute to its scenic surroundings.
