Madhav National Park, located in the Shivpuri district of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India, is an ecological haven extending over an area of 375 square kilometers. Established in 1959, it is named after Madhav Rao Scindia, the erstwhile Maharaja of Gwalior. The park is a haven for wildlife lovers and is known for its lush forests that are home to a variety of flora and fauna. It has a mixed terrain that includes wooded hills, dry, mixed forests, and flat grasslands around the lake. It offers a natural habitat to species such as the Indian gazelle, chital, nilgai, sambar, and the common langur. Tigers and leopards, which once roamed freely here, have become rare sightings. The park also boasts of Chandpata, a large lake that is an ideal spot for bird watching with numerous migratory birds visiting during the winter. Besides wildlife, there are historical monuments like George Castle within its boundaries, built by Jiyaji Rao Scindia. The park provides a serene escape from the hustle of urban life, making it a great spot for wildlife enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
