Welcome to Nageshwar Jyotirlinga, Dwarka

Historical Significance

The history of the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga is rich with religious sentiments and is chronicled in various sacred texts of Hinduism like the Shiv Purana. According to mythology, it is believed that a devotee named Supriya, who was a merchant, was attacked by a demon named Daaruka while in a boat. The demon imprisoned him along with several others at the nearby Daarukavanam, the forest of Daaruka. It was in this forest that the devotees invoked Lord Shiva by chanting "Om Namah Shivaya" and were rescued by the Lord, who then manifested as a Jyotirlinga. The Lord proclaimed that he would manifest there in the form of Nageshwar to protect his devotees from the forces of evil.
