Best Time to Visit Neyyar Dam and Wildlife Sanctuary

Neyyar Dam and Wildlife Sanctuary, located near Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram), Kerala, India, is a picturesque destination offering a serene environment and a variety of activities like boating, trekking and wildlife watching. The best time to visit is undoubtedly during the post-monsoon and winter months from October to March. During this period, the weather is pleasant and cool, making it ideal for exploring the sanctuary and enjoying the sprawling green landscapes. The monsoon rains, which typically end by September, rejuvenate the flora and fauna, making the sanctuary appear lush and vibrant, and the water level in the dam is also optimal for boating activities.

Visitors especially favor the months of December and January for their comfortable temperatures. The wildlife sanctuary, which is also home to a crocodile rehabilitation center and a lion safari park, becomes an abode for enthusiastic nature lovers and photographers during these months. Keep in mind that if you're interested in spotting animals in their natural habitat, early mornings are the best time to visit as this is when animals are most active. Also, with fewer rains, the chances of wildlife sightings increase. However, it's wise to book your trip and accommodations in advance since these are peak tourist months and the region can get quite busy.
