Satpura Tiger Reserve Tourism
Type of destination: Tiger Reserve/National Park
Ideal visit duration: 2-3 days
Closed in: July to September (Monsoons)
Satpura Tiger Reserve is an amalgamation of the Satpura National Park, Bori Wildlife Sanctuary, and Pachmarhi Wildlife Sanctuary. This expanse is one of the relatively lesser-known tiger reserves in India, situated in the rugged highlands of the Satpura Range in Madhya Pradesh. Covering around 1427 sq. km, it provides diverse habitats for a wide array of wildlife. The terrain is extensively rich with deep gorges, sandstone peaks, narrow ravines and dense forests, making it a haven for numerous species, including Bengal tigers, leopards, Indian wild dogs (dholes), sloth bears and a variety of birds. Satpura Tiger Reserve is unique in offering wildlife experiences such as walking safaris and boating besides the traditional jeep safaris. Its largely intact and undisturbed forests offer a tranquil wilderness experience, which is a rarity in the often-crowded tiger reserves of India. The park is also noted for embracing a successful community-based eco-tourism model.
