Simhachalam Temple is a Hindu temple located on the Simhachalam hill, which is about 800 meters above sea level in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. Dedicated to Lord Narasimha (an incarnation of Lord Vishnu), the temple is adorned with intricate carvings and is billed as one of the eighteen 'Narasimha Kshetras' in India. The architecture of the temple is a blend of Orissan (Odia) and Dravidian styles, evident in its construction and sculptures. The central shrine was probably built in the 11th century, with additional structures added in subsequent centuries by various rulers. Its majestic tower, the 'Kalinga' or 'Oriya' style 'Gopuram', remains covered with sandalwood paste year-round, which is removed only during the 'Chandanotsavam' festival that’s celebrated annually. The temple also has beautiful stone carvings and its surroundings offer a tranquil atmosphere with lush greenery, giving visitors a sense of peace and spirituality.
