Perched at an elevation of 3050 meters above sea level, it is one of the highest man-made lakes in the world. The purpose of the lake is to provide artificial snow on the ski slopes during scarce snowfall seasons, ensuring that the skiing activities remain uninterrupted. The lake has been created by the state government to help extend the ski season in Auli. Auli itself is nestled in the lap of the snow-capped peaks of the Garhwal Himalayas and the lake adds to the beauty of this picturesque setting. The lake is fed by the waters from the surrounding melting snow and a state-of-the-art snowmaking machine turns the water into snow during the ski season, which is a spectacular process to witness. The reflections of the lofty Himalayan peaks in the waters of the Auli Lake enhance its scenic beauty and tranquility. Adjacent to the lake are ski slopes, chair lifts and a ski lift, making it an essential ski destination.
