Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, situated in South Goa, is one of Goa's largest and most enchanting wildlife preserves. The best time to visit this sanctuary is during the cooler months of November to March. During this period, the weather is pleasantly mild, with temperatures averaging between 20°C to 30°C. This makes wildlife spotting trips more enjoyable as animals are more active in the moderate climate. Notably, it is also the peak tourist season for Goa, so you may encounter more visitors at the sanctuary. However, the clear skies and lower humidity levels contribute to optimal conditions for hiking, bird watching, and exploring the lush greenery of the sanctuary.
Visiting the sanctuary in the monsoon season, which runs from June to September, offers a different experience altogether. The rainforests of the sanctuary come alive with the fresh monsoon rains, offering a verdant, picturesque setting. However, heavy rains can make the terrain challenging and some parts of the sanctuary may be inaccessible due to waterlogging or swollen rivers. It is advisable for visitors to avoid the hottest months of April and May when the temperature soars and the scorching heat can make excursions into the sanctuary quite strenuous. Always check the sanctuary’s schedule in advance as some sections may be closed for maintenance or during extreme weather conditions.
