Jaswant Thada is an architectural marvel located in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. This cenotaph was built in 1899 by Maharaja Sardar Singh in memory of his father, Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, the 33rd Rathore ruler of Jodhpur. Made from intricately carved sheets of marble, these stones are extremely thin and polished to a shine which emits a warm glow when illuminated by the sun. Jaswant Thada is often referred to as the 'Taj Mahal of Marwar' and is a fine example of Rajputana style of architecture. It serves as a cremation ground for the royal family of Marwars. The main memorial has been built like a temple with domes, pillars, and sculptures. The grounds include beautifully maintained gardens, a small lake, and a tiered garden with gazebos. Inside the mausoleum, there are portraits of various rulers of Jodhpur which are also worth seeing. This site provides not just history but also picturesque views of the surrounding Mehrangarh Fort and the city of Jodhpur.
