Best Time To Visit Kunzum Pass (Spiti Valley) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Kunzum Pass in Spiti Valley

The ideal time to visit Kunzum Pass, located in the high-altitude region of Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh, India, is during the summer months, specifically from June to October. During this period, the snow from the winter months has melted away, and the pass is generally accessible for vehicles. The weather remains moderately pleasant with temperatures ranging between 12 to 20 degrees Celsius during the day, which provides a comfortable atmosphere for travel and sightseeing. Visitors can enjoy clear blue skies and panoramic views of the Himalayas. However, it is important to keep in mind that weather in high-altitude areas can be unpredictable, and occasional rains can sometimes cause landslides and road blockages. Therefore, always check the latest travel advisories and weather forecasts before planning your trip.

Traveling outside this recommended window, especially during the winter months from November to May, is not advised as the pass is usually covered in snow and becomes impassable. Moreover, the extreme cold and heavy snowfall can pose serious challenges, including road closures and limited access to basic facilities. The Spiti Valley itself becomes very difficult to access during these months. For adventure seekers and those interested in experiencing the region’s winter splendor, certain winter Spiti tours are available, but these require thorough preparation and the guidance of experienced local operators. For the majority of travelers, the summer months would provide not only the mesmerizing scenic beauty but also a safer and more reliable travel experience.
