For international travelers, the closest major airport is Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. From there, you may take a connecting flight to Bhairahawa's Gautam Buddha Airport (BWA), which is about 22 kilometers from Lumbini. After arriving at Bhairahawa, you can hire a taxi or take a local bus to Lumbini.
Lumbini is well-connected by road to major cities in Nepal. You can opt for a bus or a rented car from Kathmandu, Pokhara, or Chitwan. The journey could take around 6 to 8 hours from Kathmandu and about 4 to 5 hours from Pokhara.
Currently, there is no direct train service to Lumbini. However, you can take a train to Gorakhpur Railway Station in India and then continue by road to the Nepal border at Sunauli. From Sunauli, Lumbini is approximately 26 kilometers away, and you can complete this final leg by bus or taxi.
If you are traveling overland from India, you can enter Nepal at the Sunauli border crossing. Ensure that you have the correct visa arrangements as per your nationality. Beyond the border, taxis and buses are available to take you to Lumbini.
