Welcome to Lumbini, Nepal - The Birthplace of Buddha

Lumbini, located in the Rupandehi District of Nepal, is a destination of historical and spiritual significance, attracting visitors from around the world. Here's how you can reach this sacred place:

By Air:

For international travelers, the closest major airport is Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. From there, you may take a connecting flight to Bhairahawa's Gautam Buddha Airport (BWA), which is about 22 kilometers from Lumbini. After arriving at Bhairahawa, you can hire a taxi or take a local bus to Lumbini.

By Road:

Lumbini is well-connected by road to major cities in Nepal. You can opt for a bus or a rented car from Kathmandu, Pokhara, or Chitwan. The journey could take around 6 to 8 hours from Kathmandu and about 4 to 5 hours from Pokhara.

By Train:

Currently, there is no direct train service to Lumbini. However, you can take a train to Gorakhpur Railway Station in India and then continue by road to the Nepal border at Sunauli. From Sunauli, Lumbini is approximately 26 kilometers away, and you can complete this final leg by bus or taxi.

Crossing the India-Nepal Border:

If you are traveling overland from India, you can enter Nepal at the Sunauli border crossing. Ensure that you have the correct visa arrangements as per your nationality. Beyond the border, taxis and buses are available to take you to Lumbini.

Visa Information:

Most nationalities can obtain a tourist visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport or at the border crossings. However, check the latest visa policies before you travel as regulations may change.

Important Tips:

• Plan your travel between October and May, as this is the best time to visit Lumbini.
• Carry local currency (Nepalese Rupees) for smaller expenses and local transport.
• Respect local customs and dress modestly when visiting religious sites.

Embark on a serene journey to the peaceful abode of Buddhism. Safe travels!
