Pavagadh Archaeological Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Champaner, near the town of Pavagadh, in the Panchmahal district of Gujarat, India. Recognized for its cultural, historical, and architectural significance, the park covers an area that is studded with forts, palaces, religious buildings, residential precincts, agricultural structures, and water installations, dating from the 8th to the 14th centuries. The landscape is dominated by the Pavagadh Hill, which rises to a height of about 800 meters above sea level. At the summit is the ancient Kalika Mata Temple, a shrine that attracts thousands of pilgrims yearly. The area is a trove of largely unexcavated archaeological, historic, and living cultural heritage properties. The blend of Hindu and Islamic architectural styles is evident throughout the precinct, which comprises both religious and military structures of the time. The Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park is known for its historical fortification walls, palaces, mosques, tombs, temples, residential complexes, and water retaining installations together encompassing the prehistoric (chalcolithic) sites, a hill fortress of an early Hindu capital.
