Shaniwar Wada is a historical fortification in Pune, Maharashtra, India that boasts of its rich history and grandeur. Constructed in 1732, it was the seat of the Peshwas of the Maratha Empire until 1818. The imposing structure was built primarily as a residence for Peshwa Baji Rao I. Through history, Shaniwar Wada has witnessed several significant events, including the assassination of Peshwa Narayanrao. The architecture of this fort is a blend of Mughal and Marathi styles, and visitors can still observe the mighty gates, walls, and ruins that speak volumes of its past glory. The Wada is famed for its elaborate foundations and the beautiful fountain called Hazari Karanje (Fountain of a Thousand Jets). Unfortunately, much of the fort was destroyed in an unexplained fire in 1828, but the surviving structures remain a tourist magnet, encapsulating India's rich heritage and the rise and fall of the Peshwa regime.
