Surya Gate is one of the entrances to the famed Jaisalmer Fort, which is often called the 'Golden Fort' due to its yellow sandstone architecture that glistens in the sun. This historical gate is an architectural marvel, representing a blend of Rajput and Islamic styles that depict the grandeur of the bygone era. The Surya Gate is named after the Hindu Sun God and it acts as a grand doorway to the fort's royal precincts, serving as an introduction to the fort's complex labyrinth of havelis, temples, and residential areas. Walking through this gate, visitors can sense the aura of the fort's regal past and envision the hustle and bustle of ancient times. This gate is an integral part of the fort's defense systems, built with strategic features to protect the fort against invaders. Its setting against the stark desert landscape makes it a photographer's delight, especially at sunrise or sunset when the fort appears to be bathed in liquid gold.
