Best Time to Visit Veliky Novgorod, Russia

When planning a trip to Veliky Novgorod, one of Russia's most ancient and historically significant cities, the best time to visit would be during the late spring and early summer (May to early July). This period is often recommended due to the pleasant weather conditions and the abundance of daylight, which can last for nearly 19 hours around the time of the White Nights in late June. The temperatures typically range from 10°C (50°F) to 22°C (72°F), which is ideal for exploring the city's rich cultural heritage, including the Novgorod Kremlin and the numerous medieval churches and monuments.

During this peak season, visitors can take full advantage of the city's vibrant festivals and outdoor activities. The City Day of Veliky Novgorod, celebrated in late May, features numerous concerts, performances, and fairs showcasing the region's traditions and crafts. The weather in late spring and early summer enhances the experience of river cruises along the Volkhov River or leisurely walks in one of the city's many parks. Despite the attractiveness of this period, it is wise to book accommodations in advance as the city becomes a popular destination for tourists and domestic travelers alike.
