The Archaeological Museum Khajuraho is situated in the small town of Khajuraho in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. The museum was established by the British officer W.A. Jardine in 1910 to preserve and exhibit the various artifacts recovered from the region. It was later reorganized in 1952 by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The museum houses a rare collection of sculptures and architectural ruins predominantly from the medieval period, dating back to the 10th and 12th centuries, which echoes the Chandela dynasty's craftsmanship. It showcases intricate stone carvings, inscriptions, and various objects that were originally part of the iconic Khajuraho Group of Monuments, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for their stunning nagara-style architectural symbolism and their erotic sculptures. The museum provides insights into the history, religion, and culture of the times when these temples were created. Visitors can explore five galleries, an open-air display, and a main hall, each narrating a unique aspect of the Chandela art and iconography.
