Southern Group of Temples Khajuraho Tourism

The Southern Group of Temples in Khajuraho is part of the renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, India. These temples are famous for their stunning architecture and intricate erotic sculptures. Built between 950 and 1050 AD by the Chandela Dynasty, the site originally included 85 temples, but now only about 20 remain. Among the Southern Group, the most prominent ones are the Duladeo and Chaturbhuj Temples. These temples are known for being some of the last constructed temples in the entire Khajuraho complex. They follow a distinctive architectural style which includes high platforms, elaborate carvings, and several interior compartments. The Duladeo Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is adorned with graceful figures of apsaras and shaivite deities, whereas the Chaturbhuj Temple stands out with a massive, intricately carved image of Vishnu in its sanctum.
