The Chitragupta Temple is an integral part of the illustrious group of monuments at Khajuraho, situated in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. This temple is dedicated to the sun god, Surya, and is known for its splendid architectural design and intricate carvings that adorn the structure. It was built by the Chandela rulers between 1020-1025 CE during the reign of King Vidyadhara. The edifice stands in the northeastern corner of the main group of temples and exhibits the typical features of Khajuraho architecture, which includes a sanctum sanctorum, a vestibule, maha mandapa with lateral transepts, and an entrance porch. Like the Kandariya Mahadeva and Lakshmana temples, the Chitragupta Temple showcases exquisite sculptures depicting various deities, celestial maidens (apsaras), and scenes from daily life. The temple is a significant example of the Nagara style of Hindu temple architecture and is a UNESCO World Heritage site, celebrated for its historical value and artistic brilliance.
