Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary Tourism

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, lying in the Western Ghats, is a verdant expanse in Wayanad, Kerala, India, renowned for its rich biodiversity. Established in 1973, it is the second-largest wildlife sanctuary in Kerala and part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Characterized by deep valleys, undulating hills, and thick forests, it's a natural habitat for a significant number of flora and fauna. The sanctuary is divided into two parts, Muthanga in the east and Tholpetty in the north. It’s a haven for wildlife enthusiasts with sightings of Indian bison, elephants, tigers, and leopards. The vegetation ranges from dense moist deciduous forests to semi-evergreen pastures. It's not just the wildlife, but the sanctuary’s indigenous communities like the Paniyas, Kurumas, and Adiyans also add to its cultural fabric. Their harmonious relationship with the environment can be observed by the traditional practices of agriculture and forest use.
