Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, also known as Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, is part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, located near the border with Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in the Wayanad district of Kerala, India. It is the second-largest wildlife sanctuary in Kerala and is rich in biodiversity. The reserve is home to an impressive range of fauna including Asian elephants, tigers, leopards, and myriad species of birds. It plays a crucial role in the conservation of several endangered species and forms a significant part of the elephant corridor connecting Bandipur and Nagarhole parks in Karnataka and Mudumalai in Tamil Nadu. The sanctuary is a haven for nature lovers and photographers with its dense forests, beautiful landscape, and tranquil environment. Along with wildlife safaris, which are the main tourist attraction, one can engage in bird watching and enjoy the thrill of spotting animals in their natural habitat. The sanctuary also works towards the welfare of the tribal communities living in the area, protecting both the region's cultural and environmental heritage.
