Best Time to Visit Kanheri Caves, Mumbai

The Kanheri Caves, nestled within the lush greenery of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Mumbai, Maharashtra, is a group of ancient rock-cut monuments that date back to 1st century BCE. The ideal time to visit these caves is during the post-monsoon months of October to February when the weather is cooler and the surrounding foliage is still fresh and vibrant. During this period, the humidity levels are comparatively lower, and the temperatures range between 20°C and 30°C, making it pleasant for tourists to explore without facing the scorching heat that Mumbai is known for.

Visitors planning their trip in these months can enjoy the serene and peaceful ambience that prevails, as the caves lie within a protected park area. The absence of rain ensures safer accessibility to the caves and an easier climb up the rock-cut steps. If visiting during weekdays, one can expect fewer crowds, allowing for a more intimate experience with the historic site. Morning hours are particularly recommended to catch the soft sunlight filtering through the cave complex, highlighting the intricate carvings and the Buddhist history that these caves are steeped in.
