Best Time to Visit Mysore Zoo

The Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as the Mysore Zoo, is one of the oldest and most renowned zoos in India. Situated in the heart of Mysore (Mysuru), Karnataka, it becomes the melting pot of nature and wildlife enthusiasts. The ideal time to visit the Mysore Zoo is during the cooler months of the year, specifically from September to February. During this period, the weather in Mysore is pleasant, with moderate temperatures that usually range between 15°C and 30°C. This comfortable climate makes it enjoyable for visitors to walk around the expansive zoo without the discomfort of the scorching heat or monsoon rains. Additionally, since this is not peak summer, the animals are more active and visible, making it a delightful experience for wildlife watchers.

However, for those who are particularly interested in the flora of the region as well, the months of July to September might also appeal as they coincide with the post-monsoon period. The region's greenery is at its lush best, and the zoo's gardens are vibrant with plant life due to the preceding monsoon rains. It is worth noting that although the zoo is open throughout the week except for Tuesdays, it becomes particularly crowded during weekends and public holidays. Hence, planning a visit on a weekday is advisable to avoid the crowds and have a more tranquil experience. Regardless of the season, always check the zoo's opening hours before visiting, as they may vary depending on the time of the year and specific holidays.
