Jaisamand Lake, also known as Dhebar Lake, is situated in the Udaipur District of Rajasthan, India. It is renowned for being the second largest artificial lake in Asia, created in the 17th century by Maharana Jai Singh while making a dam on the Gomati River. The lake covers an area of approximately 87 km2 with a circumference of over 30 km. The dam constructed on it is equally impressive, with a length of about 1,200 feet and a width of 116 feet. At its inauguration, the Maharana inaugurated six cenotaphs and a Shiva temple along the dam. The lake comprises seven islands, with the tribe of Bhil Minas inhabiting the larger ones. The Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary nearby shelters various species of animals and birds. It also has beautiful marble Chhatris around its embankment and a stylish summer palace on its banks, providing a splendid view of the lake. Jaisamand Lake is an exquisite spot that perfectly blends natural beauty with historical grandeur, offering visitors a peaceful escape as well as a glimpse into the region's culture.
