Best Time to Visit Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, Wayanad, Kerala, India

Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, also known as Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, is a biodiversity-rich area located in Kerala. The climate here is generally humid and tropical. The sanctuary experiences three principal seasons: summer, monsoon, and winter. The most recommended time to visit Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is during the cooler winter months, from October to February. During this period, the weather is pleasant, and the temperature ranges between 10°C and 25°C, making wildlife spotting trips comfortably enjoyable. The chances of seeing animals are higher in the cooler mornings or late afternoons as they emerge to forage and visit water bodies.

The monsoon season, which lasts from June to September, can be quite challenging for wildlife viewing due to heavy rainfall leading to muddy trails and thick undergrowth. However, for those interested in the lush vegetation and don't mind the wet conditions, this could also be an option. Summers, from March to May, are hot and sometimes uncomfortable for long treks, with temperatures rising up to 35°C. Despite the heat, summer mornings can still present good wildlife viewing opportunities, particularly near water sources as animals gather to quench their thirst. Overall, when planning your visit, aim for the winter season when the sanctuary's flora and fauna are at their most vibrant and the experience of exploring is most rewarding.
