Nainital Zoo, also known as Bharat Ratna Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant High Altitude Zoo, is perched at an elevation of 2100 meters above sea level in the picturesque hill station of Nainital, Uttarakhand, India. Spread across an area of 11 acres, it is one of the few high altitude zoos in India and houses a variety of endangered species. This well-maintained zoo is home to several exotic and endangered species such as the Royal Bengal Tiger, Tibetan wolves, Hill Fox, Palm Civet Cat, Silver Pheasants, Rose-ringed Parakeet, and many more. The zoo aims at the conservation and protection of wildlife in their natural habitat. The hilly terrain of the zoo allows visitors a scenic walk amidst the greenery while observing the animals. Ecological awareness and education are key objectives here; the zoo operates breeding programs for species like the Siberian Tiger and the Steppe Eagle. The visitors get a chance to connect with nature, learn about wildlife conservation, gain ecological wisdom, and enjoy a panoramic view of the hilly town.
