Saptarishi Kund is a high altitude glacial lake considered to be the origin of the Yamuna River, located in the upper reaches of the Bandarpunch mountain range in Uttarakhand, India. This remote and sacred spot is linked to the legend where the seven great sages, the Saptarishis, performed penances. It is situated at an altitude of around 4,421 meters above sea level, making the trek to the lake a challenging one. The terrain is rugged, involving steep climbs and crossing streams filled with cold glacier meltwater. It is often covered with blue and green algae, which adds a unique hue to the lakeâ€™s surface. Enthusiasts and pilgrims undertaking this trek should be well acclimatized to the high altitude and physically fit. The Kund is encircled by rock-strewn glaciers and offers a tranquil and pristine atmosphere away from the bustling pilgrimage activities in Yamunotri, which is approximately a 10 km trek away.
