The National Zoological Park, commonly known as the Delhi Zoo, is a sprawling green space housing a large variety of fauna in the heart of Delhi, India. Spread over 176 acres near the Old Fort, the zoo provides a natural habitat to more than 130 species of animals and birds from around the world. Established in 1959, it is designed to be a spectator's paradise and an edutainment spot, offering visitors a chance to closely observe wildlife. The zoo's layout is divided into different sections that house animals such as Royal Bengal tigers, Asian elephants, great Indian one-horned rhinoceroses, and numerous species of deer. The zoo also features a reptile house, a hippopotamus pool, and a butterfly zone. Bird lovers can revel in watching migratory birds that visit the zoo's large lake. The Delhi Zoo conducts several conservation programs and also acts as a center for animal rehabilitation and awareness.
