Amar Jawan Jyoti, located in New Delhi, India, is a symbol of bravery and sacrifice, commemorating the Indian soldiers who lost their lives in wars defending the nation. It was inaugurated in 1972 after the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971, by the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. The memorial consists of a black marble plinth with a reversed rifle, capped by a war helmet, bounded by four eternal flames on its corners. It serves as a tribute to the Unknown Soldier. Amar Jawan Jyoti is situated at the eastern end of Rajpath, just opposite the India Gate, another iconic landmark that commemorates the 70,000 Indian soldiers who died during World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. The place is not only a war memorial but has also become an area where people gather on occasions like Republic Day and Independence Day for celebrations and to pay homage to the brave hearts. The eternal flame that burned for decades was merged with the flame at the National War Memorial in January 2022.
