The India Habitat Centre is a multipurpose building in New Delhi, designed by architect Joseph Allen Stein. Opened in 1993, it serves as a hub for persons and institutions working in the field of habitat and related areas to enhance dialogue and collaboration. The centre aims to bring under one roof, a plethora of activities, including workshops, conferences, discussions, exhibitions, and performances. Spread over nine acres, the complex combines innovative architectural techniques with the cultural richness of India, manifesting in its extensive use of terracotta tiles, brick, and other elements. It houses premium auditoriums, conference rooms, libraries, and exhibition spaces. Notably, it also includes the Visual Arts Gallery, a platform for artists to showcase their work. The Stein Auditorium is famed for its excellent acoustics and is a prestigious venue for performing arts. The complex ingeniously combines ecological design, with water bodies and landscaped gardens that merge with the structures, making it an environmentally friendly model.
