Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi, India, is the official residence of the President of India. The palatial building, formerly known as Viceroy's House, is a magnificent example of British colonial architecture and was designed by British architect Edwin Lutyens. Spanning over 320 acres, it consists of 340 rooms and blends Mughal and European architectural styles, representing the heritage of Indian craftsmanship combined with advanced western ideologies. Completed in 1929, it was originally the residence of the Viceroy of India during the British Raj. Post-Independence in 1947, it was renamed Rashtrapati Bhavan. The intricate design includes the Ashoka Hall, Durbar Hall, and a vast presidential garden known as the Mughal Gardens, which is open to the public during certain times of the year. The building stands as a symbol of democracy, the republic, and the strength of India. It has been the venue for the swearing-in of its leaders and hosts many official ceremonies and foreign dignitaries.
