Ideal visit duration: 1-2 hours
Sultan Ghari's Tomb, built in 1231 AD, is considered to be the first Islamic Mausoleum in Delhi. This historical site is the tomb of Prince Nasiru'd-Din Mahmud, the eldest son of the first Sultan of Delhi, Iltutmish, who ruled from 1211-1236 AD, and belongs to the Slave Dynasty period. The tomb is octagonal and is situated within a fortified Ghari (cave), hence the name 'Sultan Ghari' or 'Sultan's Cave'. It resembles the architectural style of the Ghorids and the Seljuqs. The structure stands on a raised platform in a courtyard, surrounded by ruins that suggest the presence of a madrasa and a mosque. The tomb is covered by a dome and has an inscription bearing the name of Nasiru'd-Din Mahmud. Despite not being a popular tourist spot, Sultan Ghari's Tomb holds significant historical importance and is frequented by both history enthusiasts and locals. The atmosphere surrounding the tomb is serene, making it a tranquil site away from the hustle of the city. The tomb is managed by the Archaeological Survey of India and has been declared a monument of national importance.

Nice grounds. Average historical detail.
The site of the mausoleum is fairly mundane. There are no information boards to provide any history. Pre-read about the place to get any context for it. The adjoining grounds are quite nice, though. ..
