Type of destination: Bahá'í House of Worship
Ideal visit duration: 1-2 hours
The Lotus Temple, located in Delhi, India, is an architectural marvel and a symbol of peace. Officially known as the Bahá'í House of Worship, this remarkable structure draws inspiration from the lotus flower, representing purity and tenderness in many cultures. Composed of 27 free-standing marble-clad 'petals' arranged in clusters of three to form nine sides, the Lotus Temple stands amidst lush gardens and pools, embodying serenity and inviting introspection. Designed by Iranian architect Fariborz Sahba and completed in 1986, it is one of the eight continental Bahá'í Houses of Worship. The temple is open to all, regardless of religion, and is an embodiment of the Bahá'í principle of oneness. With its nine doors opening onto a central hall capable of holding over 2,500 people, the Lotus Temple is a place where visitors come to pray, meditate, or simply revel in the tranquil atmosphere. Its unique design minimizes the use of artificial lighting and cooling, emphasizing environmental harmony and resource efficiency.

Not Kids friendly. Systematic
No shade. Need to go through the line and it's a big one. If you want to go with kids, go during the winter season. We went there in October, the heat was unbearable and the kids suffered a lot.
